what is a men’s shed
The story of the shed
is the story of
the blokes in it.
Pines Community Men’s Shed is a place to come, create, connect, and belong – no experience needed, no judgement, just good blokes, good coffee, and something useful to do with your hands.
WHO WE ARE
A local hub for blokes who want somewhere to go
Pines Community Men’s Shed is a not-for-profit community organisation based in Frankston North, Victoria. We give men a place to come, create, connect, and belong – through hands-on projects, good conversation, and genuine mateship.
We’re affiliated with Men’s Shed Victoria and the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA). We’re solar-powered, community-supported, and proudly run by volunteers who genuinely care about the men who walk through the door.
It doesn’t matter what you’ve done before. What matters is you’re here now.

Brian’s first project was a chessboard
Brian Dixon runs the Pines Community Men’s Shed. He’d never made a thing in his life before he started here – his first project was a chessboard, and he figured it out as he went. That’s still the rule today: nobody arrives knowing how to do this. Members learn on the job, from each other, over a cuppa.
The shed isn’t fancy. It doesn’t need to be. What it has is good blokes, decent tools, a full workshop, and a kettle that’s always on.
“Come on in – there’s always a spare seat and the kettle’s on.”
– Brian Dixon, President / Manager
what we stand for
Four things that are true about us
1
You don’t need skills – just show up
No experience needed isn’t a tagline. It’s the actual rule. All you need to do is turn up.
2
Good blokes, good coffee, good work
Come for the woodwork. Stay for the company. Enjoy your visit for the princely sum of gold coin donation.
3
Made with our own hands, given to our community
Mud kitchens for kindergartens & Butcher’s blocks for neighbours. We didn’t charge a cent.
4
Every bloke who walks in says the same thing
“I wish I’d come sooner.” We hear it from every new member. What are you waiting for?
INSIDE THE SHED
What we Get Up to
A full woodworking workshop, a kitchen for daily morning tea, and a community of blokes who turn donated materials into things that matter.
Chessboards
Brian’s first project, and still a signature piece of the shed.
Mud kitchens for local kindergartens
Built at no cost and donated straight to the community.
Bread Board
Made from scrap table legs and made by hand in the workshop.
Kids Toys
Handmade kids toys donated to local toy libraries.
Repurposed antiques
A 1930’s gramophone , restored and given new life as a liquor cabinet.
Outdoor Settings
Handmade by members for local primary schools.
WHO WE’re backed by
A serious community institution with plenty of support
We’re an incorporated not-for-profit association, affiliated with the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) and Men’s Shed Victoria (VMSA). Our annual membership and public liability insurance are covered through AMSA, and we work closely with Frankston City Council.
If you’re a GP, social worker, or family member looking for somewhere genuine to refer or recommend, this is a registered, supported, and well-run local organisation.
